OVERVIEW OF NCN SABRE ACADEMY AND CAMP APPLICATIONS
CONCERN:
In the MINISTRY OF ROYAL RANGERS, boys have been striving to achieve all that is held high in terms of standards, growth and honors. For years they struggled from one advancement to the next, but only when there was a “next” challenge to go on to. Some of these boys achieved the highest award a boy can receive, the Gold Medal of Achievement. Often times after receiving this award, they had nothing left to challenge them. It was not long before they were no longer actively involved in Royal Rangers and sometimes not involved in their church at all. Many of these young men were between the ages of 16 to 21, a time in their lives when they need to begin developing their leadership skills. As a result, young men with as many as ten years of indoctrination and training in the church began to disappear from the church. Years later, one or two of these young men may have reappeared in the church and perhaps have become involved as leaders in the church and sometimes in Royal Rangers as a Commander. What happened to all those young men? What happened to all those Gold Medalists? What could have been accomplished during those years these young men wanted to do more in the Royal Ranger ministry?
PURPOSE:
The DISTRICT JUNIOR LEADERS TRAINING ACADEMY is one of many options to help answer these questions. Several training camps will take place each year with some on a rotational basis. This will give boys intense, professional training along with powerful spiritual emphasis. This training experience is designed to be a catalyst and a springboard of spiritual encouragement. The Academy will prepare young men for a gradual, ever increasing role of leadership in their local outpost. By itself the Academy cannot accomplish this. It takes a local outpost with the vision to provide a place of ministry for these older Rangers. More importantly, it is an active outpost that continues to give the sense of belonging with an elite group of Rangers. The inspiration and training the Ranger brings back to his outpost is a source of rich ministry and edification to other boys in the outpost. It is our intention that a young man will experience a deeper, more meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ during his training at the Academy. He will learn things about himself and what he needs to do in order to follow the Lord’s will in his life. This high sense of spiritual awareness will become infectious to his outpost brothers. The entire outpost will desire to have the same experience to learn, to advance, and respond to the challenge of the Academy. In short, through the Academy, boys learn the importance of assuming their role of leadership within their church, thus training boys to become leaders.
DEFINITION:
The Academy will consist of a series of camps designed to train boys in specific areas of camping skills and leadership responsibilities. On the following page is a list of the camps.
